An Application of Regression and Calibration Estimation to Post-stratification in a Household Survey

چکیده
This paper empirically compares three estimation methods—regression, calibration, and principal person— used in a household survey for post-stratification. Posttratification is important in many household surveys to adjust for nonresponse and the population undercount that esults from frame deficiencies. The correction for population undercoverage is usually achieved by adjusting estimated people counts in each post-stratum to equal the corresponding population control counts typically available rom an external source such as a census. We will compare estimated means from the three methods and their estimated standard errors for a number of expenditures rom the Consumer Expenditure Survey sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in an attempt at understanding how each estimation method accomplishes this step in post-stratification.

Bayesian Inference for Spatial Beta Generalized Linear Mixed Models
In some applications, the response variable assumes values in the unit interval. The standard linear regression model is not appropriate for modelling this type of data because the normality assumption is not met. Alternatively, the beta regression model has been introduced to analyze such observations. A beta distribution represents a flexible density family on (0, 1) interval that covers symm...
متن کاملHousehold electricity demand estimation: a regression discontinuity design approach
Estimating electricity demand elasticity in different sectors has been an essential research topic. Considering the fact that pricing electricity in various countries does not follow the same rules, many econometrics methods have been developed to estimate this crucial parameter. Electricity demand elasticity is defined as the percent change in electricity consumption in response to one percent...
متن کاملOn Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
متن کاملPost - Stratification and Conditional Variance Estimation Richard Valliant
Post-stratification estimation is a technique used in sample surveys to improve efficiency of estimators. Survey weights are adjusted to force the estimated numbers of units in each of a set of estimation cells to be equal to known population totals. The resulting weights are then used in forming estimates of means or totals of variables collected in the survey. For example, in a household surv...
